July 28 Visit to AIDS villages in Shangcai County HenanJust got back from a visit to the AIDS villages in Shangcai County, South of Zhengzhou, in Henan Province. There is so much to say, but it's hard to find the words to say it. The photos of the villagers will speak for themselves....
Thousands of people were infected with HIV/AIDS virus years ago, when they were asked by local leaders to sell their blood for a small amount of money. Tragically, the leaders used poor and unclean equipment and methods to collect the blood. They mixed the blood of many people together, took what they needed to sell for profit, then gave some blood back to the villagers so they wouldn't be weak from loss of blood.
This was a horrible mistake, because if one person giving blood was infected with HIV, the AIDS virus, then everyone else became infected!
Many people in the villages have already died, many are now sick and will die soon, many seem healthy and may live a long time, but can't find a job because employers are afraid to hire them.

June 13 New NIH study supports immune-based treatment model for HIV/AIDSThe study described below strongly supports the immune therapy approach to HIV infection, first suggested in the late 1980's, officially submitted as a "treatment model" to the NC DHHS in April, 1992 and later published in the Journal of Naturopathic Medicine, Volume 4, Number 1 (see http://www.healthchina.org/document/doc20041027.html on website www.healthchina.org )
Your comments and suggestions for rapidly developing this immune-based HIV treatment method will be deeply appreciated by the 40+ million people worldwide infected with HIV/AIDS. They deserve the best possible treatment at the lowest possible cost, truthful answers to their questions, and ethical, compassionate help from all of us.
Sadly, even the newest and most expensive drugs have failed to cure AIDS, or add years of life to those with HIV infection. After 20 years of costly failure by the pharmaceutical industry, it is time to try the logical, common-sense approach which has proven effective in fighting other viruses such as rabies and hepatitis: vaccines and antibodies.
It is too late to save the millions who have already died of AIDS, but there is still hope for a longer life for those now infected with HIV.

June 11 New NIH Study in Science Supports Immune Therapy Model for HIV Treatment

Nabel1Vaccine-induced cellular immunity controls virus replication in simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)–infected monkeys only transiently, leading to the question of whether such vaccines for AIDS will be effective. We immunized monkeys with plasmid DNA and replication-defective adenoviral vectors encoding SIV proteins and then challenged them with pathogenic SIV. Although these monkeys demonstrated a reduction in viremia restricted to the early phase of SIV infection, they showed a prolonged survival. This survival was associated with preserved central memory CD4+ T lymphocytes and could be predicted by the magnitude of the vaccine-induced cellular immune response. E-mail: nletvin@bidmc.harvard.edu October 07 Minter speaks to Jiaoda Red Cross chapterOn Thursday September 29 the Red Cross chapter at Beijing Jiaotong University (Jiaoda) invited Gary J. Minter to speak about his work with HIV/AIDS in the US, and his volunteer work with AIDS education in China. Minter has studied AIDS for almost 20 years, and worked for a government public health department in the US for 12 years.
During that time Minter's duties included counseling HIV+ persons, and locating and interviewing the sex partners and drug needlesharing partners of people with AIDS. Minter worked in low-income neighborhoods, visiting crackhouses, jails, prisons, hospitals, and public housing projects, talking with drug addicts, prostitutes, and drug dealers, trying to warn people confidentially of their exposure to Human Immune Virus (HIV, the AIDS virus), and counselling and helping people with AIDS.
After his speech Minter donated 200 rmb to the Jiaoda chapter of the Red Cross from money he collected from his popular "Saturday Night at the Movies" film series. AIDS Charity Fashion and Talent Show for UN World AIDS DayWe will hold fashion and Talent shows to help with AIDS education and prevention, and to help people who are HIV+ (infected with the AIDS virus) at various locations throughout China. We ask all universities to sponsor an event for United Nations World AIDS Day, December 1 of each year. The events can include fashion and talent shows, Dining with Friends events, music festivals, art shows, and any other creative ideas which help with AIDS awareness and raise money to help persons with HIV/AIDS.
